Mount Washington is a named hillside neighborhood located within the City of Los Angeles, California. Our community was subdivided in the early part of the 1900s and for over 100 years, the community was built out one lot at a time. The sale and development of lots largely one lot at a time led Mount Washington to become a place of highly individualistic people with a unique quality of life loved by its residents.

mtThe Mount Washington Homeowners' Alliance (“MWHA”) is a voluntary Homeowners association that seeks to protect, enhance, and improve the quality of life in Mount Washington and to support its partner communities of Glassell Park, Highland Park, Cypress Park and Sycamore Terrace. While voting membership in the Alliance is reserved to homeowners within the Mount Washington boundaries, other community residents may also join to keep aware of community activities or participate in Alliance projects.

If you are a homeowner or resident on Mount Washington, won’t you please join us?

In 2004, the California Council for the Humanities, California Stories Fund, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, awarded the Alliance funds to conduct an oral history project for Mount Washington.  The Project featured three components: a History Guide that briefly tells the Hill’s history before picking up the threads of voices in the oral interviews, an online archive of Project materials, and a final community event where the Alliance premiered a short documentary cut from some of the 17 hours of video taped history interviews.  Our History page of this website serves as the online archive for the Project and we welcome you to the beginning of documentation of our stories.
